Yukon Nominee Program (YNP)

Yukon is where the north meets opportunity. With around 30,000 people, mostly in Whitehorse, it’s all about that mining and tourism vibe. If you’re bringing unique skills to the table, the Yukon Nominee Program (YNP) is your chance for a provincial nomination. It’s about embracing adventure and carving out your path in a community that thrives on innovation. Ready to step into this bold new world?

Yukon Nominee Program (YNP)

The Yukon Nominee Program, established in 2002, is designed to attract skilled immigrants to fill critical labor shortages in the territory. Each year, it approves hundreds of skilled workers and entrepreneurs, offering them a pathway to permanent residency. The program features an enhanced category, Yukon Express Entry, which aligns with Canada’s Express Entry system, as well as several base categories.

Through the Express Entry system, applicants are ranked using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), with regular draws selecting top candidates for permanent residency. Nominees receive an additional 600 CRS points, significantly increasing their chances of securing an Invitation to Apply (ITA) in subsequent draws. Enhanced streams expedite processing, typically within six months, while base streams may take around 12 months. This streamlined approach ensures that Yukon can attract the talent it needs to thrive in today’s economy.

Yukon Immigration Categories

There are five options to choose from

Yukon Express Entry (YEE)

Skilled Worker

Critical Impact Worker

Must have an approved Express Entry profile

Must have the finances to support self and family needs in the province

How it Works

You need a valid local job offer that your employer was unable to fill with local labor, along with sufficient financial stability to settle comfortably in Canada. To receive an Invitation to Apply from IRCC, complete and submit the YEE form. Ensure all required documents for your permanent residence application are included. Once the IRCC and local immigration unit verify your documents, you will be approved for permanent residency.

How it Works

You need a local job offer from an employer who has confirmed that no Canadian citizen is available to fill the position. Complete the required forms and documents, then submit your application to the YNP. Once your employer is approved, your application will be reviewed. If approved, you will receive a nomination, allowing you to apply for a temporary work permit and permanent residence with IRCC. This work permit enables you to start working in Canada while your application is being processed.

You must also meet a Yukon Business Nominee Program (YBNP) representative and fulfill additional requirements. If you complete all mandatory requirements, you will get the support of the YBNP for permanent residence. A work permit will allow you to stay in the province until your permanent residence status is approved.

The Yukon Community Pilot

This pilot program grants immigrants a special work permit, enabling them to work for multiple employers within participating Yukon communities. Running until June 2023, the Yukon Community Pilot supports provincially nominated individuals, allowing them to work in areas such as Whitehorse, Watson Lake, Dawson City, Haines Junction, Carmacks, and Carcross. This initiative aims to enhance workforce flexibility and meet local labor demands.
